The reason why the expenditure on Arms

for the Police Department was not included was explained in

my despatch No.43 of the 9th.February, 1900.

6. The list requested in paragraph 13 will

be forwarded as soon as the Legislative Council has approved

the votes for the necessary funds.

7. Referring to the calculation in paragraph

14, taking the ordinary Revenue exclusive of Land sales at

$ 3,075,479

and the expenditure exclusive of Public

Works Extraordinary at —

$ 2,888,759

There is a balance of

186,720

If the amounts mentioned in paragraphs 12 and 13 are included

in the Estimates of $ 250,000 mentioned in paragraph 14 they

should be deducted as these items are for Public Works Extra-

ordinary. This would leave the sum, 211,800 thus showing a

deficit of $ 25,080.
